ZÜRICH. At the start of the World Championships, Aleksander Barkov gave high praise to his line mate Sakari Manninen. Barkov mentioned that he enjoys playing with Manninen and that he sometimes struggles to keep up with his quickly thinking line mate.
Do Barkov’s compliments stroke your ego, Sakari Manninen?
– He’s a bit of a jokester, Manninen humbly responds to his captain’s praise.
– It’s easy to play with him. He can win two guys in the corner, come out of tight spaces with the puck, and still be able to pass. You just need to keep your stick on the ice and be alert. It’s a real pleasure to play.
Before the tournament started, Finland’s top line was a topic of wonder. Three playmakers were lined up together. Has Manninen had to change his playing style alongside Barkov and Jesse Puljujärvi?
– I haven’t had to change. He’s a top finisher just like Jesse. I’ve been playing the same kind of game all season with Markus Granlund and Jesse.
In the first two matches of the World Championships, Manninen has recorded 0+1. Barkov has 0+3 and Puljujärvi has 3+2.
