This does not bode well: Poor observation of Oliver Kapas
The struggles of the Finnish forwards of the Montreal Canadiens continue in the NHL playoffs, and the latest name in the spotlight is Oliver Kapanen.
Head coach Martin St. Louis is moving the young player out of the active lineup, as the young Finnish center has gone 14 games without any points.
In Wednesday’s practice, Kapanen skated with the extra players in the same group where Patrik Laine has been training for a while.
Kapanen has received the least minutes among Canadiens forwards in the playoffs, and now his spot in the lineup is slipping to a true Habs icon.
Stepping into Kapanen’s place in the lineup is the experienced Brendan Gallagher, who has yet to play a single minute in this spring’s playoffs. The veteran, who has played nearly 1000 games in a Canadiens jersey, brings valuable experience.
In the regular season, Gallagher recorded 23 points in 77 games with stats of 7+16=23.
Kapanen, playing his first full season in the NHL, had a statistically strong regular season: 37 points in 82 games with stats of 22+15=37, but these do not seem to weigh against his recent ineffective performances.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Canadiens will meet again in the early hours of Thursday in Tampa. The series is tied at 2-2.
