The United States announced its team for the World Championships – Matthew Tkachuk included
The United States announced its preliminary team for the ice hockey World Championships on Thursday. The most notable player on the roster is Florida Panthers superstar Matthew Tkachuk, for whom this will be his first adult World Championship.
With the opportunity to win a World Championship gold, Tkachuk, who celebrated Olympic gold in February, could join the rare club of three gold medalists. Tkachuk has won the Stanley Cup championship in the last two seasons.
The roster of the reigning world champion does not, at least for now, boast a star-studded lineup. Besides Tkachuk, the most notable player on the list is Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll. Young forward prospects Ryan Leonard and James Hagens also draw interest in the U.S. roster.
The World Championships will kick off in Switzerland on May 15. The Lions will play in the same group stage in Zurich as the United States.
