Patrick Kane‘s career in the NHL may continue either with the Buffalo Sabres or the Chicago Blackhawks. The Athletic reports that these are currently the most promising options for the unrestricted free agent.
Buffalo would also interest Kane for personal reasons. He is from Buffalo, so a move would give him the chance to play for his hometown team towards the end of his career.
The Sabres have lost Alex Tuch over the summer, and no new forward has come in to replace him. The Athletic states that the team plans to give more responsibility to its young players, such as Noah Östlund, Konsta Helenius, Jiri Kulich, Zach Benson, Josh Doan, and Jack Quinn. Meanwhile, an experienced forward could strengthen the team’s offense.
Kane played for the Detroit Red Wings for the last three seasons. During that time, he averaged 0.86 points per game. Last season, his scoring pace was better than that of Tuch, who left Buffalo.
Buffalo also lost defenseman Bowen Byram over the summer. The departures of Tuch and Byram took away two of the team’s most experienced playoff players, so a veteran like Kane could be of use.
The Athletic also highlights the Chicago Blackhawks. Kane played for the team for 16 seasons before moving to the New York Rangers and later the Detroit Red Wings. In Chicago, he won three Stanley Cup championships during his career.
