The surprise acquisition by TPS became a success – big news released

TPS has signed a one-year extension with Swedish defender Alexis Binner, covering the 2026–2027 season.

The 191-centimeter and 95-kilogram Binner moved to Turku last January from the French top-tier club Grenoble. Before arriving at TPS, he played 66 regular-season games in two seasons with Grenoble, scoring 18+51=69 points, as well as 14 playoff games with 3+12=15 points.

He also has experience from Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan and HockeyEttan, as well as from the top leagues in Poland and Denmark.

At TPS, Binner played 23 regular-season games in the Liiga last season, finishing with 4+14=18 points. He quickly rose to a significant role in the team’s puck possession play.

According to the defender, the extension was an easy decision.

– Staying with TPS was an easy decision. The city, the team, the fans, and the opportunity to represent such a traditional club mean a lot to me. I want to develop everything in my game, but especially to continue adapting to the fast playing style of the Liiga, to be quicker, and to win more battles.

– I have felt very comfortable in the team and the city. Although last season was difficult, we want to turn things around in the upcoming season. The support from the fans means a lot to me, Binner says.

According to TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi, Binner proved his value immediately upon arriving at the club.

– Binner showed last season, right after arriving at the team, that he is a very important player for us. He brought exactly the qualities we expected from him – especially courage in play, effectiveness in power play, and quality in our puck possession game.

– Alexis is a large and puck-skilled defender who can impact the game in both directions. We believe he will take the next step in the upcoming season. His continuation brings us important continuity to our defense for the upcoming season as well, Suoraniemi commented.
