New York Rangers’ star goalie Igor Šestjorkin became the talk of the NHL round on Friday night by scoring in his team’s 5–1 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Russian goalie shot the puck into the opponent’s empty net at the end of the game. He also became the first goalie to score in the NHL while wearing a Rangers jersey.

In NHL history, Šestjorkin is only the 18th goalie to score a goal.

The news continues after the video.

The last time a goalie scored in the NHL was during the 2024–25 season, when Filip Gustavsson, Alex Nedeljkovic, and Ilja Sorokin all found the net.

Also scoring for the Rangers was Eeli Tolvanen, who joined the team from the Seattle Kraken in the summer. The Finnish winger’s goal was his first for his new team, coming on a 3–0 score.

Former Rangers forward Kaapo Kakko collected 1+1 points as the Seattle Kraken crushed the Calgary Flames 6–1 on the road.

The craziest game of the eight-game round was seen in Vancouver, where the Canucks and Edmonton Oilers combined for a staggering 16 goals in a match that ended with the Oilers winning 9-7.

Connor McDavid had an impressive game with 1+4 points. Kasperi Kapanen, on the other hand, recorded 1+1 points for the Oilers.

Eetu Luostarinen managed to score as the Florida Panthers suffered their second overtime loss of the season, this time against the San Jose Sharks with a score of 3–4.

The darkest moment of the game was when Aleksander Barkov, who had been sidelined all of last season, injured his knee. Read more about Barkov and the doctor’s assessment here.
