The star attacker was late for practice – the NHL team punished with a spectator assignment
New York Islanders star forward Mathew Barzal will be sidelined for the next game due to illness, as the Islanders face the Carolina Hurricanes in an away game on Friday night, Finnish time.
The reason for Barzal’s absence is tardiness to team practice. Head coach Patrick Roy states that as a punishment, Barzal will be left out of the lineup for the Hurricanes game, but he will play again the following night when the Islanders face the Washington Capitals.
– This is our culture. We made the decision that he will not play tonight. Barzy is not happy, but he respects the decision and understands the situation, Roy tells New York Post.
Barzal, 28, has recorded 2+6 points in nine games this season. Having represented the Islanders throughout his entire NHL career, Barzal has played 539 regular season games (136+334=470) and 60 playoff games (17+28=45).
