HIFK has signed a lucrative partnership agreement with the Åland Islands gambling company Paf, reports Ilta-Sanomat.

According to the newspaper, this is a multi-year agreement valued exceptionally high by Finnish sports standards. Paf is said to be paying HIFK at least 700,000–800,000 euros annually.

HIFK’s CEO Ilkka Kortesluoma did not confirm the newspaper’s information.

– We do not comment on information or speculation regarding individual partnerships. We will announce new cooperation agreements in due time, Kortesluoma commented to Ilta-Sanomat.

Nor did Paf’s communications manager Ludvig Winberg agree to comment on the agreement.

According to IS, HIFK initially considered the international gambling company Unibet as a partner. However, negotiations between the parties fell through for unknown reasons.

The agreement between HIFK and Paf is related to the renewal of Finland’s gambling market. The new gambling system is set to come into force in July 2027, at which point other licensed gambling companies will also be able to operate in Finland alongside Veikkaus.

The implementation of the agreement requires that Paf obtains a license compliant with the new system.

According to Ilta-Sanomat’s sources, HIFK’s local competitor Jokerit has also signed a significant gambling partnership. Jokerit is said to be receiving at least as large an annual compensation from Veikkaus as HIFK is from Paf.
