The SHL star rumored to join the Jokers made his decision – fired a harsh comment about the Liiga

Still at the beginning of the year, David Quenneville, who was rumored to be moving to Jokerit, continues his career in Sweden. The 28-year-old Canadian defenseman has signed a two-year extension with Örebro.

The 173-centimeter defenseman had an impressive regular season last year. Quenneville recorded 44 points with 16 goals and 28 assists in 52 games.

The offensive defenseman does not hide his satisfaction with his extension in Örebro.

– I am incredibly happy to continue my contract for two more seasons. Örebro has become a second home for both me and my family. It was a no-brainer to return and continue building and developing from the foundation we have achieved together, Quenneville expressed in a statement from the Swedish club.

Quenneville will start his sixth season in the SHL this fall. At the league level, the skilled puck-moving defenseman would have been a massive reinforcement. Quenneville has played a total of 236 regular season games in Sweden’s top league and scored 149 points in those games.

The rumors about Jokerit had already caused a stir earlier, and Quenneville himself dismissed the claims of a possible move to Finland exceptionally bluntly.

– I don’t know why I would take a step back in my career. I have nothing against the Finnish league. There are many good players there. My brother is one of them, and many of our fantastic players have played there. But as I said, that’s complete nonsense, Quenneville commented on the Jokerit rumors to Nerikes Allehanda earlier.

Örebro’s sports director Henrik Löwdahl describes Quenneville as a top defenseman in the SHL and considers the Canadian’s continuation with the club to be very good news.

From Jokerit’s perspective, a potential star acquisition can therefore be forgotten at the latest.
