Mikko Rantanen has become the victim of a hit by New York Islanders’ Russian defenseman Aleksandr Romanov, who may be sidelined for the rest of the season due to injury.
The Islanders report that Romanov will undergo shoulder surgery, with recovery estimated to take about 5-6 months. In the worst-case scenario, the Russian’s season is over.
Rantanen received a game misconduct for the hit on Romanov but escaped without a suspension.
The Finnish superstar of the Dallas Stars got into trouble again over the weekend and received his second game misconduct of the week in a match against the Calgary Flames. Rantanen was given an automatic one-game suspension for the two misconducts.
