The Pelicans revealed an important signing!
The Pelicans have exercised the option in the contract of Canadian forward Brett Stapley, which means that Stapley will continue with the Pelicans for the 2026-27 season.
Stapley, 27, joined the Pelicans from Allsvenskan club Södertälje SK last November. He played 30 regular season games in Lahti last season, recording strong stats of 8+14=22. In the playoffs, Stapley recorded 0+2 in eight games.
– I am grateful for the opportunity to continue playing with the Pelicans for another season. I am excited about what our team can achieve this year. I feel proud every time I put on this jersey. I am fundamentally a playmaker and want to help the team in every possible way. I will work on developing my shot and becoming stronger and faster, Stapley commented in the Pelicans’ statement.
The Pelicans’ sports director Jarkko Oikarinen Holm says that Stapley brings important continuity to the Pelicans’ group.
– We are very pleased that Brett Stapley continues with the Pelicans. He has proven to be an important part of our team both on and off the ice. Stapley brings us continuity, and we believe he will take further steps in his development this coming season.
Stapley has played in Europe in addition to Finland and Sweden for one season in Slovakia. Before that, he played in North America, most recently in the ECHL.
