NHL announces that the controversial coach Mike Babcock, 63, will be allowed to coach in the league again. The NHL’s statement indicates that the investigations related to Babcock’s time in Columbus have been concluded and that there are currently no grounds to restrict Babcock’s employment in the NHL.

The investigations were related to Babcock’s tenure as head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023. He joined the team in the summer but resigned from his position in September before the start of the season. At that time, it was reported that Babcock had asked players to show him personal photos from their phones.

An investigation into Babcock’s actions was initiated last week, as the Edmonton Oilers expressed interest in hiring Babcock as their new head coach.

Babcock has not coached anywhere since the Columbus incident. His previous head coaching position in the NHL was from 2015-19, during which he led the Toronto Maple Leafs.
