NHL draft pick defenseman left Kärpät – new team revealed
Defender Janne Peltonen, who was raised by Kärpät and left the club at the end of last season, is moving to Sweden’s Allsvenskan for the next season. His new team is Visby/Roma, which secured promotion to the country’s second tier Allsvenskan at the end of last season.
Peltonen, 21, has not played abroad in his previous career. Last season, he played 14 Liiga games with Kärpät, recording 1+1 points. Additionally, he played seven Mestis games with Hermeks, scoring 1+1 points, and seven games with Kärpät’s U20 team, with 0+1 points.
Peltonen is a 7th round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks from 2023. He has played a total of 20 games in Liiga.
– Janne is a very interesting defender with a lot of tools in his toolbox. He is a modern two-way defender who can play in all areas of the ice and still has a lot of potential to develop. We believe that the new environment and greater responsibility will help him take steps in his development, says Visby/Roma’s sports director André Lundholm in the club’s statement.
