GM Jarmo Kekäläinen has been involved in trade negotiations between the Buffalo Sabres and the Ottawa Senators, where a goalie trade has emerged as a possible option.

According to Ottawa Citizen reporter Bruce Garrioch, there has been a scenario where Devon Levi would move to Ottawa and Leevi Meriläinen would travel to Buffalo in a potential trade.

Garrioch states that Meriläinen has not been actively offered on the trade market, but he could still end up being part of a deal if the teams find common ground on the player package.

Meriläinen, 23, has played three seasons in the Ottawa organization in both the NHL and AHL. His current contract expires next summer, after which he will become a restricted free agent (RFA).

The past season in the NHL was difficult for him. He played 20 games for the Senators with a save percentage of 86.0 and an average of 3.51 goals against. According to statistics, he allowed 17.3 more goals than expected, which was the second weakest figure in the league during the season.
