The MM gold lion returns to the League – Jokerit and HIFK are left licking their wounds
Kiekko-Espoo strengthens with experienced forward as two-time world champion Jere Sallinen joins the team from Switzerland’s EHC Biel-Bienne on a three-year contract.
The 35-year-old Sallinen returns to his hometown of Espoo, where his Liiga career began with Blues in the 2007–08 season. In the Liiga, he has played a total of 337 games with Blues, HPK, and HIFK. Abroad, Sallinen has been seen in the AHL, KHL, SHL, and for the last five seasons in Switzerland’s top league, where he recorded 60+68=128 points in 216 games.
Having played for the Lions for a long time, Sallinen has won two world championships and two silver medals at the World Championships in his career.
– It feels really good. Somehow there is a feeling that now is just the right time to come here, and I am full of enthusiasm. The support network, friends, and the children’s grandparents are in Espoo, so it makes life easier for our whole family, Sallinen says in a statement.
Love for his hometown and the development of Kiekko-Espoo weighed heavily in his decision.
– This is my hometown, and I have followed Kiekko-Espoo’s journey in the Liiga closely. I am really proud and happy about where the team is at the moment.
According to MTV Sports, Jokerit and HIFK were also interested in Sallinen’s services.
