A new NHL reinforcement for the Lions again!
The Lions are getting a new NHL reinforcement for the spring World Championships. Ottawa Senators defenseman Nikolas Matinpalo will represent Finland in the spring World Championship tournament.
Matinpalo, 27, has represented the Senators for the last three seasons. He played 50 regular season games this season with stats of 0+5 and four playoff games without points.
– Matinpalo is a reliable and physical defender, an excellent addition to Finland’s backline, GM Jere Lehtinen says in a statement from the Finnish Ice Hockey Association announcement.
Matinpalo is set to participate in his third World Championships. He was previously involved in 2023 and 2025.
Matinpalo was part of the team that won Olympic bronze with the Lions earlier this year. Additionally, he participated in the 4 Nations tournament just over a year ago.
The Lions have already announced several NHL reinforcements. Joining the World Championships are also Aleksander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Olli Määttä, Justus Annunen, Urho Vaakanainen, Ville Heinola, and Lenni Hämeenaho. In addition, Aatu Räty and Topias Vilen are part of the training group.
