The great puck name is gone – beloved NHL character died suddenly
Former NHL goaltender and long-time TV analyst John Garrett has passed away at the age of 74. The news was reported by Sportsnet on Tuesday. Garrett is said to have died suddenly, but the exact cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Garrett had a significant career in hockey both as a player and in the media. During his playing career, he represented the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, and Vancouver Canucks in the NHL.
After his playing days, Garrett quickly transitioned to television work, where he became one of the most recognized voices in Canadian hockey broadcasting. He began as a commentator in 1986 on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and later continued at Sportsnet, where he worked for over two decades, particularly covering Vancouver Canucks games.
Throughout his long career, Garrett established himself as a respected analyst and gained wide popularity, especially among Canucks fans. He remained active in his work right up until the end and appeared on broadcasts just before his death.
