Miika Roine made his decision – the long-time Liiga captain continues his career abroad
Miika Roine, who has had a long career in the Liiga, will continue his career in the Polish top league next season.
The 34-year-old forward has signed an extension with Zaglebie Sosnowiec, where he played last season. Roine recorded 4+20=24 points in 39 regular season games and added 1+4=5 points in 11 playoff games as the team finished third in the league.
Roine is particularly remembered as the long-time captain of Pelicans and Jukurit. In the Liiga, the experienced forward has played a total of 598 regular season games, collecting 94+159=253 points. During his Liiga career, the forward has represented JYP, Pelicans, Jukurit, and HIFK.
Zaglebie Sosnowiec is largely building its team for next season on Finnish talent. In addition to Roine, the team includes Väinö Sirkiä, Joni Piipponen, Erkka Seppälä, Ville Heikkinen, Eero Savilahti, Joel Olkkonen, and Karolus Kaarlehto.
There is also Finnish representation behind the bench, as the team’s head coach for the upcoming season will be Matias Lehtonen.
