KalPa strengthened its coaching staff – over a decade of experience from another Liiga club
KalPa has hired Mikael Vuorio as their new goaltending coach. The contract between KalPa and Vuorio is for one year.
Vuorio, 42, has extensive experience as a goaltending coach in the Liiga. He served as the goaltending coach for Lukko from 2013 to 2025. Vuorio won the Finnish championship with the team in 2021 and a bronze medal in 2014.
Last season, Vuorio worked in Norway. He was the goaltending coach for Vålerenga.
– We are happy to have reached an agreement with Mikael. Mikael is an excellent addition to our coaching staff for the upcoming season. His extensive experience will provide us with a lot of new expertise in developing goaltending, says KalPa’s sports director Sami Kaartinen in the club’s announcement.
Vuorio will start his position at the beginning of August when the team’s self-directed training period ends.
– I am very pleased to join a top organization and team at this point in the summer. There has always been a great atmosphere at the games in Kuopio, and I hope the fans’ clappers are still in use. Wishing everyone a great summer, and see you in August, Vuorio says.
