The Canadian goaltender Michael Garteig, known from the league, has decided to retire from his playing career. The 34-year-old goaltender announced his decision on Instagram.

– Thank you, hockey. I will miss you. Thank you to my teammates, my coaches, my fans, and my friends – and to all the relationships, memories, ups and downs that I experienced along the way. Thank you, Garteig wrote in his Instagram post.

– To my family – thank you for every sacrifice you made so that I could pursue this dream. From financial and emotional support to everything in between, none of this would have been possible without you. You were always my biggest supporters. I will miss everything this game has given me as a player, and I will be forever grateful for every moment. Never take it for granted.

Garteig played in the league for Tappara during the 2019–20 season and represented HIFK in the 2021–22 season. At Tappara, his save percentage was 92.9, while at HIFK it was 90.4.

In his last four seasons, Garteig played in Germany. He represented Ingolstadt and most recently Augsburg Panther. In the recently concluded season, he played 30 games for Augsburg with a save percentage of 90.0.
