Urheilucast: Raimo Helmisen star player was about to jump to another Liiga team – last minute rejections
The defender acquisition planned by Tappara did not materialize at the last moment, reports Urheilucast host Esko Seppänen.
According to Seppänen, Tappara had agreed on the transfer of Teemu Kivihalme to the team. However, the defender decided to use the overseas option in his contract and move to HC Bolzano, which plays in the ICEHL league.
– Defender Teemu Kivihalme had an overseas option in his Tappara contract. He decided to use it, and Tappara returned to the defense market. That is the situation now in this matter, Seppänen stated during the broadcast.
The 31-year-old Kivihalme played 60 regular season games last season with Raimo Helmisen SaiPa and recorded 27 points with 9 goals and 18 assists. In the playoffs, he registered three assists in 14 games.
Kivihalme moved to SaiPa last season from Malmö Redhawks. HC Bolzano is his seventh team in the last ten years.
