Czech team for the World Championships announced – one top reinforcement from the NHL still uncertain
The Czech Republic announced its team on Monday for the ice hockey World Championships starting on Friday. The biggest star of a rather anonymous team on paper is Vancouver Canucks defender Filip Hronek.
Instead, the country’s biggest superstar David Pastrnak will miss the tournament. The Boston Bruins’ goal scorer has been suffering from persistent knee problems throughout the season.
The only potential reinforcement from the NHL for the Czech team currently seems to be goaltender Dan Vladar, who has had an excellent playoff performance with the Philadelphia Flyers.
In his very first season with the Flyers, the 28-year-old secured the starting goalie position and played 52 games in the regular season, shining especially in the playoffs, where he saved 92.2% of shots in 10 games with an average of 2.18 goals allowed.
– We are in contact with him. We are waiting for his clearance, Czech manager Jiri Slegr commented on Vladar’s situation to Hokej.cz.
From the league, goaltender Dominik Pavlat from Ilves and defender Jiri Tichacek from Kärpät were selected for the national team.
