The claim of Urheilucast: Patrik Laine’s NHL situation has changed drastically – now is the time for a difficult decision
Patrik Laine’s NHL future is currently very uncertain. According to Urheilucast’s Esko Seppänen, the Finnish player does not have any contract offers on the table at the moment.
There were discussions around Laine at the beginning of free agency. NHL teams made inquiries about the Finn, and various parties were “kicking the tires” around his situation.
However, according to Seppänen, interest has quickly faded.
In recent days, there have been no offers or contacts surrounding Laine. The previously sparked interest seems to have completely cooled off.
The possibility of entering the NHL through a PTO contract is also uncertain. With a PTO, Laine could try to secure an NHL spot at training camp, but Seppänen does not believe the Finn is ready for such a solution.
Nevertheless, the NHL door has not yet completely closed.
During the training season, team situations can change quickly, for example, due to injuries. In such cases, an opportunity could open up for Laine to return to the NHL.
Seppänen, on the other hand, does not consider moving to Europe as an option. According to him, a player like Laine will not be playing in Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe.
Finally, Seppänen presents an even harsher reflection on the situation. He suggests that the difficult situation raises the question of whether Laine and hockey are drifting apart.
