The Lions won the world championship by defeating Switzerland 1-0 in the final on Sunday after overtime.
The NHL team Winnipeg Jets’ actions after the World Championship final sparked outrage on social media. The team published a congratulatory message to Nino Niederreiter, who won silver with Switzerland. In contrast, Ville Heinola, who achieved gold with Finland, did not receive any congratulations or mention from Winnipeg.
Winnipeg’s post about Niederreiter quickly gathered many angry comments about the complete disregard for Heinola’s championship win.

Heinola played a significant role on the Lions’ defense during the tournament. He recorded 3+3 points in ten games.
In Winnipeg, Heinola has fallen out of favor. He has received very little NHL responsibility, having played only five games in the NHL and 44 games in the AHL this season. Heinola’s contract with Winnipeg ends after this season.
