Terrible news for the Canadian Olympic team: NHL superstar injured – competition trip in jeopardy
In the NHL, Tampa Bay Lightning’s star forward Brayden Point, selected among the first six players for the Canadian Olympic team, sustained an injury during the game on Tuesday night.
Point scored a goal in the match against the Philadelphia Flyers but twisted his knee while battling for the puck. The pained forward was assisted off the ice and was unable to put any weight on his right leg.
Before his injury, Point had been on a hot streak, tallying 18 points (7 goals and 11 assists) in his last 14 games.
– It looks like a knee ligament injury, the game’s commentator noted after seeing the replay of the incident.
Recovery from an MCL injury can take 6-12 weeks for a tear. Returning to play from just a sprain usually takes 1-2 weeks. There is less than a month until the start of the Olympic Games.
If Point participates in the Olympics, he would be an important piece for the team. The skilled player was part of Canada’s top line in last year’s 4 Nations tournament, which ended in victory for the country.
