Terrible news about the injured NHL superstar – Olympics in danger?
The New York Rangers have placed their injured star defenseman Adam Fox on the long-term injured reserve list on Sunday in the NHL.
Fox, 27, who shares the top spot in the team’s internal scoring race with Artemi Panarin, was injured on Saturday after being checked by Tampa Bay Lightning’s Brandon Hagelin.
Being placed on the LTIR list means that Fox, who has once been awarded as the NHL’s best defenseman, can be activated back to the playing roster no earlier than one month or 24 games later. In practice, this news means that Fox will not be seen in action at least for the remainder of this year.
Fox is one of the few bright spots for the Rangers in the early season. The defenseman, who earns a yearly salary of $9.5 million, has recorded 3+23=26 points in 27 games. Fox’s hefty salary does not count against the Rangers’ salary cap during the LTIR period.
In the worst-case scenario, the injury could even mean that Fox, who is considered one of the top defense stars in the United States, might miss the Olympic tournament in February.
