Sweden is receiving refusals from the NHL – at least these five men will stay out
The Minnesota Wild’s Swedish quintet will not be joining Tre Kronor for the World Championship. This is confirmed by Aftonbladet by Sweden’s head coach Sam Hallam.
The Wild are represented by Swedish goaltenders Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt, defenseman Jonas Brodin, and forwards Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Johansson. However, each of them has declined the invitation to the World Championship. Of the quintet, Eriksson Ek and Brodin are injured.
– No one is coming from Minnesota. We have been in contact with them, they are tired and there are other things, so they are not coming, Hallam said.
According to Aftonbladet, Anaheim Ducks’ Leo Carlsson is also unlikely to come to the World Championship, as his contract is up.
Sweden still has a small hope of getting Rasmus Dahlin from the NHL, if the Buffalo Sabres are eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. However, according to Aftonbladet, Dahlin’s arrival at the tournament is quite unlikely.
