Patrik Laine’s chances of finding a spot in the NHL even after the regular season has started seem slim at the moment.

According to NHL commentator Antti Mäkinen, however, contacts have still been coming in for the Finnish forward in recent days.

– The situation is that a few teams have been active in the past week. The active teams lately have been the Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings, Mäkinen reveals in the Kimanttia podcast.

– Right now, we are in a so-called stand by mode. Detroit has quite a few fires to put out before they can get to Laine’s case. With Los Angeles, Kevin Fiala has been out for a long time, so they might have room for power play and similar opportunities.

– They sent a message that now we are waiting, Mäkinen adds.

Mäkinen notes that Laine’s previously perceived capricious nature is concerning many teams.

– It is a question mark for many teams what kind of aura he brings with him. He has grown. He has certainly done negative things in the locker room in previous years. Now that situation has changed. He is no longer in the window where he would be considered a star player.

According to Mäkinen, Laine is currently training independently and is ready if the call to the NHL comes.
