Pittsburgh Penguins’ AHL team has called back the scoring machine Ville Koivunen to join the NHL roster.
Koivunen, 22, who started the NHL season but was sent to the AHL after just two games, will replace the goal scorer Rickard Rakell on the Penguins’ NHL roster. The Swede, who won the Penguins’ internal scoring title last season with 35 goals, has undergone hand surgery, and recovery is expected to take about 6-8 weeks.
Koivunen’s season in the AHL has started off incredibly hot. The skilled winger has recorded an impressive 4+7=11 points in six games played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Koivunen is expected to get a chance to showcase his skills alongside Sidney Crosby on the Penguins’ top line in the next game.
