Superlupaus barks at the familiar playing style from the NHL: “What is this?”
In the light of the points, Matvei Mitshkov, who played an effective rookie season in the NHL, expresses his straightforward thoughts about his team, the Philadelphia Flyers’ playing style in a recent video.
Several NHL teams base their game largely on the so-called dump & chase style, where the puck is sent into the opponent’s zone after the center ice and an attempt is made to fight the puck back to their own possession. Mitshkov, whose game is based on phenomenal puck skills, admits to hating this style of play.
– I prefer to carry or pass the puck into the offensive zone instead. When you just dump the puck into the offensive corner, you have to fight to get it back. When I first heard about this, I just thought: what is this?
– First of all, there is no guarantee that you will get the puck back. Secondly, it is a very exhausting way to play. You expend so much energy fighting for the puck that you have nothing left to give when you finally get it, Mitshkov shares his opinion in a Russian-language video.
The 2023 first-round draft pick had an effective rookie season in the NHL despite tactical disagreements. The 20-year-old super prospect scored 63 points (26+37) in 80 games.
