The Edmonton Oilers’ season ended early in the first round of the playoffs. After two final appearances, an early summer vacation was a huge disappointment for the team and its fans.

In the post-season press conference, Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl expressed concern about how Edmonton is moving in the wrong direction.

Connor McDavid shared his teammate’s perspective.

– I agree with Leon that the entire organization has taken steps backward, McDavid said.

– It starts with me and Leon. We can all be better, and we need to be better.

McDavid’s statement fueled trade rumors. He agreed to only a two-season extension with the Oilers, which was seen as a sign of limited trust. If success does not seem forthcoming now, it is believed McDavid will change teams.

NHL reporter Pierre LeBrun noted that Draisaitl may also want out of Edmonton. The German star signed a long-term extension with the team, but nothing prevents him from requesting a trade.
