Source: Swedish power defender returns to the League after more than six years!
Swedish defender Simon Åkerström, 30, is moving to the Liiga next season, reports Expressen. The man’s new team is not yet known at this stage.
Åkerström has played in his home country’s second highest league, Allsvenskan, for the past few years. For the last two seasons, he has represented AIK, where he recorded 48 games this season with points of 5+32=37. Åkerström was the second most effective defender in the entire league.
Åkerström has also played in the Liiga earlier in his career. In the 2019-2020 season, he represented Ässät, but recorded only 0+3 points in 28 games. Åkerström left Pori back to his home country during that season.
Aside from his Ässät visit, Åkerström has played his entire career in Sweden. The majority of his career has taken place in Allsvenskan. In the SHL, Åkerström has played only one game in his career.
