Source: Over 800 game veteran leaves the NHL – returning to Europe
Swedish forward Calle Järnkrok, 34, representing the Toronto Maple Leafs, is set to return to his home country’s rink next season.
Aftonbladet reports that Brynäs IF has verbally agreed with Järnkrok regarding his return to the club after this season. According to Aftonbladet, the transfer now depends on whether Järnkrok, who has suffered from injuries in recent seasons, can stay healthy.
Järnkrok is now in his fourth season with Toronto. He has scored four goals in 19 games this season. Järnkrok’s contract, which guarantees him a salary of 2.1 million dollars, ends after this season.
In the NHL, Järnkrok has played a total of 737 regular season games (141+171=312) and 105 playoff games (5+18=23). He first represented the Nashville Predators for eight seasons, then played the 2021-22 season with the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames before moving to Toronto.
Brynäs is a familiar club for Järnkrok, as he played in the club’s junior teams and rose to the senior team from there. Järnkrok won the Swedish championship with Brynäs in 2012.
Järnkrok has played in three World Championships for Tre Kronor. He won the world championship in 2013 and bronze in 2014.
