Source: NHL circles left behind – Finnish goalie tunes up for a transfer to Europe
Finnish goalie Kaapo Kähkönen, 29, is considering a return to Europe from North America for next season, reports Expressen.
According to the Swedish newspaper, Kähkönen is open to moving to either the SHL in Sweden or the NL in Switzerland for next season.
Kähkönen plays in the Montreal Canadiens organization, where he has not received any NHL responsibilities this season. Kähkönen has played 20 games with the AHL team Laval Rocket, with a save percentage of 90.5. His contract, worth 1.15 million dollars, is valid until the end of this season.
Kähkönen is in his eighth season in North America. He played regularly in the NHL in previous years, but this season and last season have primarily been spent in the AHL. Kähkönen has played a total of 140 games in the NHL representing the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, New Jersey Devils, and Colorado Avalanche.
In Europe, Kähkönen was last seen during the 2017-18 season playing for Lukko in the Liiga.
