The NHL trade market is buzzing. Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse has requested a trade.

NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman shared on the 32 Thoughts podcast why Nurse wants a change of scenery.

– A year ago, the Oilers asked all their players with no-trade clauses if they were interested in waiving them. Nurse declined. It was a very emotional time, as they had lost the finals. He was disappointed that the information leaked to the public, Friedman says.

– This year, a different decision was made in Edmonton. After the end-of-season interviews, the Oilers said they would revisit the matter later. This time, Nurse said he wouldn’t force the Oilers to ask, as he would request the trade himself.

According to Friedman, Nurse is willing to move to 4-5 teams that are in the East and the United States. The only option from the West mentioned by the reporter is the Los Angeles Kings.

The 31-year-old Nurse earns $9.25 million a year. This season, he recorded 24 points in 82 regular-season games with stats of 7+17=24. His plus-minus rating was 12 below zero.
