Source: Boston Bruins put Joonas Korpisalo on the market – here’s the reason
The Boston Bruins are trying to get rid of their expensive backup goaltender Joonas Korpisalo.
According to NHL reporter Jimmy Murphy, the Bruins want to give a chance to Michael DiPietro, 26, who is having a great season in the AHL, having played 17 games for the Providence Bruins this season with a goals-against average of 1.86 and a save percentage of 93.5.
– The Bruins have been trying for a while to find a partner for a possible trade. The problem is that Korpisalo’s performance is not in line with his salary (four million dollars per season). Some teams are looking to improve their backup goaltending position, but right now Korpisalo is not that guy, Murphy writes.
– The Bruins would love to find a way to trade him and call DiPietro up, but they would have to include some other pieces as sweeteners either in the form of a draft pick or a future prospect, the reporter estimates.
The San Jose Sharks were reportedly one potential suitor for Korpisalo before the team added depth to their goaltending department by acquiring Laurent Brossoit from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
Korpisalo’s stats from the season’s 16 games are lackluster at 3.42 and 88.8%. According to Murphy’s assessment, the Bruins may end up making a drastic decision and burying the Finnish goaltender on the trade list to the AHL.
