The New York Rangers left their superstar Artemi Panarin out of the lineup for last night’s game against the New York Islanders. The Islanders won the game 5–2.
Sportsnet reporter Chris Johnston reports that Panarin is not expected to play for the Rangers again before the Olympics. The reason is a potential trade.
Panarin’s contract expires next summer, and the Rangers are not offering an extension. The Russian star has scored 57 points in 52 games this season.
The Rangers are last in the Eastern Conference and are planning major changes to the team. Panarin has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can influence his future team.
The NHL trade deadline is March 6, but the trade ban begins during the Olympics on February 4.
Artemi Panarin will not be in the #NYR lineup tonight because of roster management purposes and is not expected to dress again before the Olympic break.
