SHL defender moves to the Liiga next season: “Can put on the ice in any situation”
HIFK has signed a one-season contract with Swedish defender Lukas Pilö, 26.
In the previous two seasons, Pilö played in the SHL for Timrå IK. In the recently concluded season, he appeared in 39 regular season games with stats of 0+4. His point total was three points below zero.
– I would describe myself as a two-way defender with a good breakout pass who wants to play with the puck. Above all, I want to be a reliable player for the team who uses his strengths in a way that benefits the team. I always give my all for the team both in games and in practice, Pilö says on HIFK’s website.
HIFK’s head coach Olli Jokinen knows Pilö from the time he coached Timrå.
– He is a reliable defensive defender. Lukas will be an important piece even on the penalty kill. He can be put on the ice in any situation, Jokinen says on the club’s website.
– He is a well-liked team guy and an excellent team player. An unyielding fighter.
