Sebastian Aho experienced the biggest moment of his career early Monday morning Finnish time, as the Carolina Hurricanes celebrated the NHL championship. The Hurricanes secured the Stanley Cup victory by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in the sixth game of the finals with a score of 3–0. The championship was decided with a series score of 4–2.

Carolina has been one of the NHL’s consistent performers for several years, but the decisive step towards the championship had remained elusive. This time, however, everything fell into place.

For Aho, the championship meant a lot. The Finnish center described his feelings in an interview with Viaplay immediately after the final buzzer.

– It feels absolutely amazing. Incredible feeling. Behind a lot of hard, hard work. It definitely pays off, Aho reflected.

When discussing the strengths of the Hurricanes, Aho highlighted the team’s collective commitment and successful acquisitions.

– We’ve been in the playoffs for many, many years, but we haven’t gotten the desired results. I don’t know, this year everything just clicked. There were good acquisitions in the offseason, and the whole team committed in an incredible way. This is a really disciplined team. That’s how we surely succeeded this year, Aho described.

However, the most touching moment of the interview came at the very end. When Aho was asked what he would like to say to Finland and to the people who have walked alongside him throughout his journey, emotions surfaced.

– I have so many wonderful people in my life, whose support, safety, and encouragement I have received over the years…, Aho managed to say.

Emotional Aho continued a moment later and sent a warm message to his loved ones.

– We will celebrate today with those who are here. Those who aren’t, we will celebrate in the summer. It leaves you speechless, Aho said.
