Revelation: Matias Maccelli is on the radar of an NHL top team – Toronto blocked the trade
Matias Maccelli, who moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, has attracted interest from other teams as the NHL trade deadline approaches.
According to NHL reporter Nick Kypreos, the Edmonton Oilers attempted to acquire Maccelli in exchange for the underperforming Andrew Mangiapane. However, the Toronto brass vetoed the trade.
Expectations for Maccelli were high in Toronto at the start of the season. The boldest anticipated that the skillful winger could even replace Mitch Marner, who left for Vegas, on the top line. However, the 25-year-old from Turku, who was left out of the Olympic team, has had a challenging season. In 48 games, the undersized Maccelli has recorded 10+14=24 points.
In the trade offered by the Oilers, the Finnish Mangiapane has played 51 games this season with 7+7=14 points.
