Revelation about Artemi Panarin: He rejected a ridiculous offer from another NHL team
Artemi Panarin‘s transfer from the New York Rangers to the Los Angeles Kings late Wednesday was the most significant completed player trade in the NHL this season.
Elliotte Friedman now claims that the Seattle Kraken offered the 34-year-old Russian talent a four-year contract with an astonishing annual salary of 14 million dollars (total value 56 million dollars), should he accept the transfer to the team.
According to the insider journalist, Panarin’s camp initially demanded an annual salary of 50 million dollars from the future team to finalize a contract extension. Apparently, Seattle was not among the cities or the Kraken among the teams where Panarin wanted to continue his career.
Ultimately, only Panarin, who accepted the transfer to the Kings, agreed to sign a two-year extension with the Kings worth a total of 22 million dollars (AAV 11 million). According to Friedman, Panarin was also negotiating a 45 million dollar deal with the Kings until Tuesday.
According to the journalist’s claims, Panarin’s camp also negotiated the transfer with the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, although these negotiations reportedly ended abruptly. Next to drop out of the race were California’s other teams, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks.
