Rare transfer: Forward from Sweden to KHL rinks

In KHL, Nordic players have been scarce since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
In this regard, a surprising move has now occurred: Linus Weissbach is transferring from Frölunda in the SHL to SKA in St. Petersburg.
Weissbach is a 28-year-old Swedish forward who has not played in Russia before, but in Sweden and the United States.
Weissbach’s transfer has caused a stir in Sweden. For example, on social media, his decision to move to Russia has been met with anger.
Weissbach was drafted into the NHL in 2017, but he has no NHL games under his belt. He has played three seasons in the AHL before returning to Sweden in 2024.
