Kärppien ex-star out in Russia – contract terminated
The previously signed goalkeeper for Kärpät, Patrik Rybar, is once again without a team. The KHL team Shanghai Dragons announced on Wednesday that they have mutually agreed to terminate the Slovakian goalkeeper’s contract.
Rybar, 32, guarded the Dragons’ goal in 28 KHL games last season. His save percentage was 91.7 and his goals against average was 2.88.
In Finland, Rybar is remembered for his time with Kärpät, where he played for two seasons from 2019 to 2021. In his debut season in the Liiga, he appeared in 37 games with a save percentage of 92.4 and a goals against average of 1.82. In his second season, he played 33 games, with a save percentage of 91.2 and a goals against average of 2.02.
From Oulu, Rybar moved to the KHL, where he played for five seasons. During that time, his teams included Spartak Moscow, Dinamo Minsk, and most recently, Shanghai Dragons.
Shanghai had already begun strengthening its goaltending department earlier this week by acquiring the rights to Amir Miftakhov from Ak Bars for a financial compensation. At the same time, the team signed a two-year contract with Miftakhov. Miftakhov played for the AHL team Chicago Wolves during the 2025–26 season.
