Philadelphia struck a huge deal – star defender avoided arbitration
The Philadelphia Flyers have secured one of their most important pieces for the coming years. The team signed a new four-year extension with star defenseman Jamie Drysdale on Friday.
The fresh contract guarantees the 24-year-old Canadian an annual income of $6.5 million. The agreement was reached just moments before arbitration, which the parties were thus able to avoid.
Drysdale played his second full season with the Flyers last season, being one of the team’s key defensemen. The puck-moving talent recorded 32 points (8 goals, 24 assists) in 78 regular-season games and continued his strong performance in the playoffs, where he collected 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) in ten games.
The Anaheim Ducks selected Drysdale as the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He is now one of the cornerstones of Philadelphia’s defense.
The new contract keeps Drysdale in a Flyers jersey through the end of the 2029–30 season.
