Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators made a trade in the NHL.

Veteran forward David Perron is moving to Detroit. In return, Ottawa receives a conditional 4th round draft pick for the upcoming summer draft.

If Perron plays one game in the regular season or playoffs, Ottawa will receive the 4th round draft pick. Perron has been sidelined due to hernia surgery since the end of January.

If Detroit advances to the second round of the playoffs and Perron plays in half of the first round playoff games, Detroit will give Ottawa a 3rd round draft pick.

Perron, 37, was in his second season with Ottawa. He recorded 25 points (10+15=25) in 49 games with the team this season.

Detroit is already a familiar team for Perron. He played with the team for two seasons from 2022-24 before moving to Ottawa.

Perron has played a total of 1,223 regular season games (329+480=809) and 110 playoff games (26+38=64) in his NHL career. He has also previously represented the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Vegas Golden Knights. Perron won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019.

Perron’s contract, which guarantees him four million dollars in annual earnings, runs through the end of this season.
