Oliver Kapanen will not participate in the Montreal Canadiens’ first NHL game of the season due to injury.

Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis stated that the 23-year-old Finnish forward will be sidelined for the opening match against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kapanen is suffering from a lower-body injury, and his playing condition will be evaluated day by day.

Last season, Kapanen was involved in all 82 regular-season games for the Canadiens. He recorded a total of 22+15=37 points. In the playoffs, Kapanen appeared in seven games and had to watch some of the games from the stands.

Montreal opens its season against Toronto. The game starts at 2:00 AM Finnish time on Wednesday night.

Martin St. Louis says Oliver Kapanen won't be in opening night lineup for #Habs in Toronto. He's listed as day-to-day with lower-body injury after playing all 82 regular-season games last season. Coach won't name starting goalie, but you have to expect it will be Jakub Dobes.
