Oliver Kapanen reached an incredible milestone in the NHL – rose alongside Saku Koivu
Finnish newcomer of the Montreal Canadiens Oliver Kapanen scored his team’s first goal during the NHL night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Montreal won the game 3-1.
Kapanen finished his goal from in front of the net. At the same time, he reached the 20-goal milestone in his first NHL season. Kapanen has recorded 33 points in 63 games this season with 20 goals and 13 assists.
Kapanen rose to a shared first place in the NHL rookie goal scoring chart. Alongside him, Beckett Sennecke and Matthew Schaefer have also scored 20 goals. In the rookie points leaderboard, Kapanen is in fourth place.
Kapanen became the sixth rookie in Montreal’s history in the last 30 years to break the 20-goal milestone. The others are Michael Ryder (25 in the 2003-04 season), Cole Caufield (23 in the 2021-22 season), Chris Higgins (23 in the 2005-06 season), Valeri Bure (22 in the 1995-96 season), and Saku Koivu (20 in the 1995-96 season).
