Now Paul Maurice speaks – comments on the Lions rumors
A stir arose regarding the coaching situation of the Lions after Ilta-Sanomat reported that Florida Panthers’ head coach Paul Maurice was considered for the helm of Finland in the super tournament.
According to Kimmo Timonen on the Kimanttia podcast, Maurice himself would have been proactive in this matter. However, the head coach is now shooting down the rumors, claiming they are unfounded.
– Yes, I received a bunch of messages about it. What nonsense! I think someone has confused me with Tuomo Ruutu. There was a Panthers coach on the bench, but it wasn’t me, Maurice denies the rumors of a possible Lions position.
– They have too many good coaches in Finland; they don’t need me. I think I will continue to stay in Fort Lauderdale during these tournaments. That suits me well, Maurice stated.
Playing for the reigning NHL champion Panthers, coached by Maurice, are a number of Finns: Aleksander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen, and Niko Mikkola. Except for the injured Barkov, all represented Finland in the Olympics that ended with a bronze celebration.
