Joel Armia switched teams in the NHL this summer, as the forward who represented the Montreal Canadiens for seven seasons signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent.

The 32-year-old from Pori is set to seriously pursue success next season, as the Kings are among the strongest teams in the league on paper. According to the winger, the change was much needed.

– It was definitely time to make such a move. It feels really good to go to Los Angeles, as I know there is a really strong team and a chance to succeed this season as well. I feel really excited, Armia admits in an interview with Yle.

According to Armia, ending up on the free market brought mixed feelings.

– It was quite a fun day to experience, but also a bit stressful. However, the decision came quite easily. The Kings showed interest, and after thinking about it for a moment, it didn’t require much more consideration. Once I made the decision, it felt really right, Armia now shares.

The Golden Lion believes that the Kings’ playing style suits his own strengths well.

– I thought about what kind of hockey they play and what kind of team they have. It feels like my strengths fit that package quite well, Armia emphasizes.

Armia’s contract with the Kings is for two years and has an annual salary of 2.5 million dollars.
