Florida Panthers strengthened their goaltending department in a significant player trade just a day after the team acquired Akira Schmid as the new backup goalie from the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Panthers and New Jersey Devils agreed on a trade on Tuesday, where Florida receives Swedish star goalie Jacob Markström and forward Angus Crookshank. In return, the Devils get forwards Evan Rodrigues, Jesper Boqvist, and Ben Steeves.

The 36-year-old Markström arrives in Florida as a replacement for Sergei Bobrovsky, who has won two Stanley Cups with the team. The Swedish goalie played 44 regular-season games last season with a save percentage of 88.3 and an average of 3.07 goals allowed. His contract, which carries a six million dollar annual salary, has two seasons remaining.

The other significant player in the trade is Rodrigues, who leaves Florida after three seasons. The 32-year-old Canadian forward won two Stanley Cups with the team and recorded 31 points in 69 regular-season games last season with stats of 11+20=31. His contract, which includes a three million dollar annual salary, covers next season as well.

Boqvist played 73 games for the Panthers this past season, recording 4+9=13 points.
